Food is one of my favourite things in the world, especially when someone else is cooking! I love eating out and a birthday is a perfect excuse, especially a 21st birthday celebration.
At the weekend I was lucky enough to visit the Bush Hotel in Farnham, Surrey to celebrate my sister in law’s 21st birthday.
I had never been to the Bush Hotel before but as a child, my husband used to go there a lot. In those days it was independently owned, but today it is part of the Mercure hotel chain.
The main part of the hotel is a beautiful old building. Consisting of a large hallway and narrow corridors, the hotel has a great deal of character and had maintained many of its original features.
We had no need to stay in the hotel over night, however I have been reliably informed that the rooms are lovely. The hotel has an extension with ground floor rooms or otherwise there are rooms upstairs in the old part of the building.
The staff at the Bush Hotel were superb. Nothing was too much trouble for them. My mother in law had liased with them a lot in advance of the day and they made sure that everything ran smoothly. They were constantly on hand and happy to help with whatever we needed and the surface we received before, during and after the meal was brilliant.
We were offered a three course set menu which was about £35 a head. For starter there was the choice of a prawn and crayfish salad, tomato and cheese ravioli or soup of the day.
For main course the was between a salmon fillet, slow cooked chicken leg and chorizo or a rump steak.
I opted for the prawn and crayfish salad followed by the rump steak. Generally I’m not a fan of chips but the ones which came with the steak were delicious.
Dessert was a choice of creme brûlée, sticky toffee pudding, sorbet or ice cream.
The whole meal and experience was superb. We were the only people in the dining room giving us a private dining experience and although it wasn’t the sunniest day, it was great to enjoy drinks on the patio after the meal.
